MSOC: Seawolves Postseason Fate Comes Down to Final Game vs. Cal Poly Humboldt

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - The Sonoma State men's soccer team has battled through one of the most competitive seasons the CCAA has had in recent years. The Seawolves difficult schedule featured a pair of games against top five opponents including third ranked Chico State and fourth ranked Cal State LA. They finished their conference schedule with five games against top-25 opponents but were able to put together an impressive 6-0-2 road record and play their way into the postseason picture.

On the eve of the final regular season game, head coach Marcus Ziemer and his squad will have a few different avenues to get into the conference tournament but will need some help from Cal State San Marcos and Cal State San Bernardino, who are also fighting for the final two spots.

2023 CCAA Men's Soccer Standings and Tournament Outlook

Y - Cal State LA - 27 pts.
Y - Cal Poly Pomona - 23 pts.
Y - Cal State Monterey Bay - 20 pts.
Y - Chico State - 17 pts.

Cal State San Bernardino - 14 pts.
Cal State San Marcos - 14 pts.
Sonoma State - 13 pts.

The Seawolves can grab one of the two final spots with a win and a loss by either Cal State San Marcos or San Bernardino. They are also able to tie with Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday and get in with a loss from San Marcos. They hold the tiebreaker with San Marcos having earned a draw against them and then a win over Cal State Monterey Bay, but they lose the tiebreaker with the Yotes as they suffered a one goal loss back in September.

San Bernardino and San Marcos will have their work cut out as the Cougars hit the road to take on Cal State East Bay and San Bernardino will host fifth ranked Cal Poly Pomona, one of their toughest games this season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 AM and per conference rule, all games across the CCAA will be played at the same time on Thursday.
