ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Tuesday, February 28th, the 2022-23 All-CCAA women's basketball teams were announced with three SSU players earning their first career all-conference selections. Sophomore forward
Alli McDonald highlighted the group and was named to the All-CCAA First Team, while seniors
Cielo Gonzalez and
Amanda Luckett earned Honorable Mention status.
So. | Forward | Alli McDonald - All-CCAA First Team:
Diamond Springs native
Alli McDonald had a career season as she doubled her scoring average and stood as one the best stretch forwards in the league, averaging 14.5 points and 8.3 rebounds, both good for top-10 ranks in the CCAA. McDonald was a double-double machine, leading the team 8 double-doubles on the season, including a career game against Stanislaus State where she finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds.
During her 2022-23 campaign, McDonald was named the CCAA Player of the Week three times, becoming the first player in program history to win the weekly award three times in a season since All-American and Hall of Famer Jann Thorpe did so during the 1997-98 season.
McDonald finished the regular season with a .498 FG% (5th in CCAA), .893 FT% (1st in CCAA), 1.2 blocks per game (t-1st in CCAA), and a total of 31 blocks good for 2nd in the conference. She also recorded a team high six 20-point games on the season. Congratulations to
Alli McDonald on her first career All-CCAA selection and being named to the conference's First Team ahead of the CCAA Tournament on Thursday.
Sr. | Guard | Cielo Gonzalez - Honorable Mention
Senior guard
Cielo Gonzalez will graduate from Sonoma State this spring but has certainly made her impact felt in her two seasons of competition with the women's basketball program. Gonzalez put up consistent numbers in both seasons as she averaged just under six points per game during the 2021-22 season, but exploded for a career year this season as she averaged 10.3 points, good for second on the team and top-25 in the CCAA.
Gonzalez was an aggressive all-around guard for the Seawolves as she impacted the game on both ends of the floor. Gonzalez led the team with a career high 47 steals, also good for top-10 in the conference. Her 83% free throw percentage and 29 made three's were also good for second highest on the team.
Gonzalez recorded a career high 21 points earlier this season against Cal State East Bay and a career high 6 steals twice, against San Francisco State and Cal State San Bernardino. Her Honorable Mention status goes down as her first All-CCAA recognition of her SSU career.
Sr. | Forward | Amanda Luckett - Honorable Mention
Washington native
Amanda Luckett stormed onto the scene for the Seawolves down the stretch as she played a pivotal role in clinching a spot in the CCAA Tournament for the program's 6th straight season. Luckett has reached double figures in each of her last four games and has averaged nearly 10 rebounds a game during that stretch.
Her 8.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game rank inside the top-3 on the team with her rebounding average good for 18th in the CCAA. Luckett recorded career highs in points and rebounds this season, scoring 18 against Cal Poly Humboldt and grabbing 15 rebounds against Stanislaus State. She also ranks 2nd on the team shooting an efficient 48% from the field.
Luckett will close out her Seawolf career with a career high in points, rebounds, and blocks and earns her first All-CCAA accolade as she receives Honorable Mention status in the 2022-23 season.
