ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Thursday, August 24th the annual CCAA Preseason Coaches poll was released with Sonoma State picked to finish 6th out of the 12 member institutions. The Seawolves have begun to turn things around as a program over the past two seasons after making the conference tournament in 2021 and 2022.
Last season, head coach
Marcus Ziemer got his squad to the tournament semifinals for the first time since 2016 after a thrilling upset over 13th ranked Cal Poly Pomona. SSU would defeat the Broncos 7-6 in an epic penalty shootout with second year goalkeeper Reiner ter Riet making the final save. He would finish with a season best 12 saves in regulation and go on to lead the conference with 94 saves that season.
Also returning for the Seawolves include dynamic wingers
Jvon Cunningham,
Michael Gray and
Patrick Neill who combined for six goals in 2022. SSU will also return two-time All-CCAA midfielder
Sean Rohane who scored two goals and played over 1300 minutes last season. Ziemer and company will be seeking the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016.
