WSOC: Seawolves Finish Non-Conference Action 2-2-2, Open up CCAA Play Against San Bernardino

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - The Sonoma State women's soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule last weekend against fellow CCAA member Cal Poly Humboldt and will kick off conference action this weekend against San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. Despite a bit of an uncharacteristic start to the season, the Seawolves still pulled off key results against ranked opponents Colorado Springs and defending national champs Western Washington. SSU is also fresh off of their third straight league title after a dominating 15-win season and making their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022.

To start the 2023 season, Sonoma State finished with a non-conference record of 2-2-2 and recorded a pair of shutout victories over Biola and Dominican earlier this month. Head coach Emiria Salzmann and her group were picked to finish second in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll and will look to their four all-conference returners to lead the way this season. RECENT FORM

Despite coming off a 2-0 loss to Cal Poly Humboldt, Sonoma State has had great production from second year forward Annette Sotelo. The reigning CCAA Freshman of the Year has four goals for the Seawolves and has started in all six games. Along with Sotelo is senior captain Julia Betti who earned Honorable Mention status last season and has a goal of her own to start this season. In net, Claudia Janese has made her presence felt as she leads the league with four shutouts and ranks 5th with 16 saves on the season. The Seawolves continue to represent one of the top programs in the west region and will start their quest to a historic fourth straight league title, having won three straight dating back to the 2019 season.
