CORNING, CALIF.- Men's Golf officially kicked off their fall season earlier this week at the Wildcat Classic, hosted by CCAA rival Chico State. With solid individual performances across the board should serve as a solid starting point for the team heading into the rest of this year.
The Seawolves leader on the green was Colin Huang. Huang paced his team thanks to shooting five under par for the entirety of the tournament. In particular, his second round of play was arguably the top round played across the entire team. On day two Huang was four under par, chipped in four birdies and also added an eagle on hole seven. For his work on the course Huang finished eighth overall as an individual.
Finishing right behind Hunag was fellow senior Ryan Stewart. Stewart brought home an 11th place individual finish. Heading into the last day of play Stewart sat in 16th place. Yet, after an outstanding final round of golf he was able to climb up the leaderboards in a final push. On day three Stewart shot four under-par which had him tied for the second best performance on day three. He was dialed in across all 18 holes with only one bogey and five birdies.
The final Seawolf to finish in the top 15 was newcomer Robby Keilch. Keilch was able to secure a 14th overall finish giving SSU three top 15 players. Through three rounds of play Keilch finished with 11 birdies while shooting under-par on the first two days of play as well.
The Seawolves final two players were Keelan Cole and Ryan Knox. Cole and Knox will look to use this tournament as a launching point for the rest of the season.
The boys are back on the course in just a few days as they head to Monterey to partake in the the Otter Invitational from October 13th through October 15th.
