WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, HAWAII- Behind the strong play of a pair of juniors the Seawolves put together a solid showing to start their Hawaiian road trip.
Avery Foster has been the teams top option on the greens so far this season and that trend continued over the two days of play. Foster would end in a tie for fifth place after a strong day two performance. Shooting just one over par with only three bogeys, Foster was able to make a late push up the leaderboards to get into the top five. Foster has now posted three straight top six individual finishes on the year including her first place win just a few weeks ago at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational.
Fellow junior Talia Gutman put together her best tournament of the year as well. Gutman took fifth place and was outstanding on the opening day of play. Not only was she two under par through the first 18 holes, she finished the tournament with a team best seven birdies. After a solid showing at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, Gutman has taken that momentum and continued to elevate her play.
Following their upperclassmen, the freshman duo of Avery Kraatz and Rilee Crosby also have adapted well to the college game. Kraatz has steadily improved over the course of the fall season and played herself into a top three individual performance among her teammates. After a slow start to round one she really picked things up on day two of the tournament. Kraatz shot seven strokes better on day two than she did for round one. With five total birdies, four of which came on day two, Kraatz continues to improve round by round. Crosby is also off to a strong start of her college career. Similar to Kraatz, she posted a strong rally on day two to move up eight spots in the standings. Crosby would shoot five strokes better between day one and day two. Lauren Garcia was the final Seawolf on the course and also had a strong second day of play improving her score by five strokes on the second round of 18 holes.
The team will enjoy a few days to recover before getting right back on the greens. They will be playing another tournament at the Mauna Lani Golf Course from October 24th through October 26th.
