Women’s Golf Shines at the SSU Fall Invitational with 1st Place

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.-It has been a busy few days for Sonoma State Athletics. Coupled with a heat wave, the Seawolves have seen action on the soccer pitch, volleyball court and to wrap things up, on the golfing greens. Women's Golf hosted the SSU Fall Invitational at the local Foxtail Golf Club and teed off against the Chico State Wildcats, Academy of Art Urban Knights and Jessup Warriors. After two days and 36 holes, the Seawolves secured a first place team finish as well as the top two individual players of the tournament!

Leading the way at Foxtail was reigning CCAA Newcomer of the Year Avery Foster. Foster put together an outstanding two days of golf as the only player to shoot under par during both rounds. After shooting two strokes under par on day one she finished the tournament three strokes under. Thanks to eight birdies Foster secured an individual first place finish.

Finishing right behind Foster was standout freshman Rilee Crosby. The La Verne native put together a breakout performance with a second place finish and helping the team win the tournament. Her first round score of two under par was tied with Foster for the top angle round performance out of the entire field of competitors. With five birdies on day one, Crosby has proved she's moving up the ranks of the collegiate field.

The pair of Talia Gutman Avery Kraatz also added top 10 finishes to their resume. Gutman had a strong second round that saw her shoot three strokes better than her day one finish. Her last nine holes were a testament to her composure as she shot on par or better for eight of the final nine holes. Kraatz, alongside fellow freshman Crosby, has continued to adapt to the college game. She brought home tenth place and  put together a clutch performance down the stretch. On her final four holes of play she was able to post three birdies to move into the top 10.

The final two Seawolves to take to the greens were Kaitlin Anderson and Lauren Garcia. Thanks to the efforts of all five players the team secured their first tournament championship of the season! Women's Golf will enjoy some time off between their next tournament. The team will be heading to Hawaii to first partake in the Hawaii Pacific University before wrapping up their fall schedule competing at the University of Hawaii at Hilo tournament in Hilo, Hawaii!
