SACRAMENTO, CALIF.- Cross Country season has officially come to an end with Constance O'Neal representing the Seawolves at the NCAA Division II championship meet earlier today. O'Neal put together a dominant season as the newest member of Sonoma's cross country program.
O'Neal qualified for the national championship race behind a strong showing at the West Regional meet where she earned All-Region honors with an 11th place finish. Today, she put together a competitive effort that saw her finish the six kilometer course with a final time of 22:18.5. O'Neal steadily improved her positioning across each kilometer showcasing what has become a signature level of grit and focus as the distance gets longer and the race gets harder. Overall she improved her standing by an impressive 77 spots from the first kilometer to the last. She was one of the premier representatives of the CCAA as a whole as well as she was the fifth fastest performer from the conference.
As the season comes to an end O'Neal and the entire cross country program should be proud of the season they submitted. Individually Constance has three individual first place finishes at the Seawolf Invite (5K-8:03.03), The Paul Short Run (6K- 21:31.4) & at Greeno/Dirksen Invite (5K- 17:45.06). She also finished in 4th place at the CCAA Conference Championship meet and was named the CCAA's Newcomer of the Year, a member of the All-Conference team and led the Seawolves to their best overall finish as a team in the CCAA in 23 years.
Congratulations on a great season Constance! We cannot wait to see you tear it up on the track this spring!
