SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's golf team used a fantastic final round on Tuesday to move four spots on the leaderboard and place 7
th at the Fujikura Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Cal State San Marcos at the Shadow Ridge Country Club featured 15 teams.
The Seawolves opened the event on Monday morning with a 309 score in the first round.
Avery Foster led the way with a score of 76, birdying two holes.
Brenna Ozel finished with a team high three birdies to shoot a 77 and tie with
Amelia Gladys for the second-best score on the team.
Lauren Garcia rounded out the first round scoring with a 79.
Monday's second round saw Sonoma State shoot a 317 in the second 18-hole round of the day. Garcia was the low scorer in the second, recording four birdies and shooting a 76. Foster and Gladys each turned in 80s and Ozel added an 81 to round out the scoring.
Tuesday saw the Seawolves make a major move up the leaderboard after entering the day in 11
th. Foster, Gladys and
Talia Gutman started the day off strong, all birdying their second hole of the round. Gladys followed up with another birdie on her fourth hole. Ozel closed out the day with a stellar final nine holes, recording two birdies and seven pars as SSU continued to climb. Foster meanwhile shot a 1-over-par on her final nine to help the Seawolves finish with a 302. That score was the third best of the day as Sonoma State leapt over four teams.
Foster and Ozel both closed with their best round of the tournament, each firing 74s. Gladys added a 76 and Gutman rounded out the scoring with a 78. Foster added another top-20 finish to her resume, tying for 18
th at 230 while Ozel placed 24
th with a 232.
The Seawolves are off for a couple weeks before they head to Tucson, Arizona for the West Texas Desert Invitational on April 1-2.
