PLEASANTON, CALIF. - On Tuesday, March 5th, the Sonoma State men's golf team nearly replicated their first round performance to hold onto the 4th place spot in the Nighthawks Invitational. They would shoot one stroke better on Tuesday with freshman
Cole Kroeker recording five birdies for a team low round of 1-under-par. Senior golfer from Petaluma,
Lucas Happy, jumped up two spots on the individual leaderboard with a 73 (+1).
Ryan Stewart and
Nick Friedman combined to shoot 4-over-par for the final two counting scores. Their team round of 4-over-par was the third lowest round of the day behind Cal State East Bay and Northwest Nazarene.
The Seawolves had a much better scoring day recording a tournament high 21 birdies as a team compared to just 9 birdies on Monday. They took advantage of the par 5's today, finishing even par with 8 birdies in the course's four par 5's.
Happy finished his two rounds of action just 1-over-par good for a top-10 finish to lead the way for Sonoma State.
Cole Kroeker and
Ryan Stewart would follow with top-20 finishes at 3-over-par.
Colin Huang shot a 72 (E) opening round on Monday and would finish just outside the top-20 with a 77 (+5) on Tuesday while
Nick Friedman bounced back with a 74 (+2) to climb into the top-30. Junior transfer
Ivan Sablan competed this week as an individual and recorded back-to-back 75's to also sneak inside the top-30.
With all six players finishing inside the top-30, this would go down as one of the team's most consistent performances all year and their 4th place finish would be the team's best since October 3rd when they placed 2nd at the Wildcat Invitational.
