LOS ANGELES, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Golf got the spring season underway with an outstanding performance at the LA Spring Kickoff. In a field featuring 16 teams the Seawolves secured a third place finish with three athletes finishing within the top 15. Thanks to a strong second round of play the team was able to climb two spots in the standings on the final day of play and finished just seven total strokes behind the first place team.
Leading the way for the Seawolves was Avery Foster. Foster was outstanding taking second place as an individual thanks to a dominant round two performance. After her first day of play Foster sat in 18th place. During the second round of play she rallied with four birdies and an eagle which led to her shooting two strokes under par for the day.
Similar to Foster, Talia Gutman's day two performance was equally impressive leading to a massive jump in the standings as well. Gutman's seventh place finish came courtesy of climbing 21 spots up the leaderboards behind a strong round two. She had three birdies and was on par for 12 other holes.
Rounding out the Seawolves top players was Rilee Crosby. Crosby, a freshman, managed a top 15 finish thanks to steady play across both rounds of golf. Across the 36 holes she posted four birdies while also shooting on par during 22 other holes. Fellow freshman Kaitlin Anderson also played well as an individual for the Seawolves finishing 22nd overall.
It was a strong showing across the board for the Seawolves who went toe to toe with some of the best NCAA Division II programs on the west coast and more than held their own. The team now enjoys a few weeks off before returning to the greens!
