Seawolves Drop Match To No. 16 UC San Diego

Laurel Stricklin scored twice in the Seawolves' loss to UC San Diego
LOS ANGELES, Calif-  Third-seeded UC San Diego edged Sonoma State 8-6 on Friday afternoon in WWPA Tournament action from the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.  The defeat sends the Seawolves (13-16) into the consolation bracket where they will face Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday.

The two-goal deficit was a vast improvement from earlier in the year when Sonoma State lost to UC San Diego 11-5.

The Seawolves got out to the early lead before the Tritons scored four straight to take a 4-1 lead.  SSU scored late in the second quarter, then to open the third quarter, to trim the UCSD lead to 4-3.

Behind two goals from Judy Emaus, the Tritons inched the lead back to 7-4 with eight minutes remaining.  After trading goals early in the fourth quarter, the Seawolves got one final score with 11 seconds left to bring the final score to 8-6.

Laurel Stricklin and Emily Pearce each had two scores for Sonoma State while goalkeeper Lysa Lombard was credited with six saves.
