WWP: 8 Seawolves Named to 2020 WWPA All-Academic Team

Rohnert Park, Calif. - This afternoon 93 student-athletes were named to the 2020 Western Water Polo Association All-Academic Team. Of those 93 student-athletes Sonoma State University saw eight student-athletes selected to the team for their efforts in the pool and in the classroom. To qualify for the WWPA All-Academic team, a player must have played in at least 50 percent of their teams games, carry over a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be classified as a full-time student and must have completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at their respected institution. Selected for Sonoma State were sophomores Camille Grace and Cameron Gavuzzi; juniors Allison Dugdale, Julia Hemphill, Morgan Jones, and Alyssa Russell-Sadoff; and seniors Hailey Gellert and Cassidy Mundt

During her freshman season, center Cameron Gavuzzi played in 21 games for the Seawolves and scored 5 goals. Before the cancellation of the spring season, Gavuzzi was producing yet another productive year for the Seawolves having played in all 17 games and recording 7 goals and 2 assists. Gavuzzi is studying Criminal Justice here at Sonoma State.

Fellow sophomore Camille Grace earned herself a spot on the 2020 WWPA All-Academic Team. As a true freshman, Camille also made a significant impact during her freshman campaign with SSU as she played in 24 games and recorded 7 goals on 16 shots. Camille is a Communications major at SSU.

Junior Morgan Jones was a dynamic attacker for the Seawolves. Before transferring to SSU, Jones played in 31 games at Sierra College where she recorded 65 points on 32 goals and 33 assists. During the 2020 season, Jones played in all 17 games for the Seawolves and was fourth on the team in scoring with 12 goals. Jones continues her degree in Kinesiology at SSU.

Alyssa Russell-Sadoff was one of four Seawolf juniors to be selected to the WWPA All-Academic team as a Hutchins major. Alyssa not only excelled in the classroom, but also in the pool. The junior guard transferred to SSU from Santa Barbara City College where she recorded 33 goals and 61 assists. Playing in all 17 games for Sonoma State, Alyssa scored 3 goals and recorded 5 assists during the Seawolves spring season.

Keeper Allison Dugdale appeared in 9 games for Sonoma State and made 5 starts during the spring season. Dugdale went 1-2 in the net and recorded 39 saves for SSU. As a junior college transfer, Dugdale provided plenty of depth and talent in the net as she recorded over 100 career saves in her 2-year career at Sierra College.

Julia Hemphill rounds out the junior selections for the Seawolves as she earned a spot on the WWPA All-Academic Team. Julia played in all 17 games for the Seawolves this spring and recorded  2 goals along with 1 assist. Julia continues her Sonoma State education as a History major.

Utility player and senior, Hailey Gellert earned a spot on the 2020 WWPA All-Academic team during the 2020 spring season. Gellert played in 15 games as a senior for Sonoma State during the shortened spring season where she netted 9 goals and recorded 7 assists. Gellert was a threat on both ends of the pool and was a terrific transfer player for the Seawolves during her two year career. Gellert graduated from Sonoma State with a degree in Kinesiology.

Finally for the Seawolves is 4-year senior and WWPA Player of the Week winner, Cassidy Mundt. Cassidy was one of the Seawolves most dominant offensive threats this season as she put away a team leading 48 goals in just 17 games. Mundt would finish her Seawolf career with 99 career goals during her three seasons of play. Mundt graduated from Sonoma State University with a degree in Early Childhood Studies.
