Softball Suffers Sweep At Hands Of SF State

The Seawolves dropped both games to SF State on Saturday afternoon
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif-  Sonoma State's struggles against CCAA competition continued on Saturday as San Francisco State swept a conference doubleheader, 4-1 and 9-4, at the SF State Softball Field.  The Seawolves drop to 14-24, 2-16 CCAA while the Gators, ranked sixth in this week's NCAA regional poll,  improve to 24-16, 10-10 CCAA.  The Seawolves and Gators split yesterday's doubleheader to give SF State a 3-1 series win.

The Gators got to SSU starter Kayla Ledford for five runs in the first three innings of game one.  Karolyn Gubbine and Natalie Amburgey produced back-to-back RBI triples to spark a three-run second inning before Gubbine drove home another run in the third to make it 5-0.

SSU got on the board with an RBI fielder's choice by Caitlin Lavezzo, but SF State was able to cruise to a 4-1 win, behind the strong arm of Ashley Jackson.  The impressive freshman improved to 12-6 on the year with a three-hit, seven-strikeout performance.

In game two, San Francisco State blew things open when they followed a one-run first inning with a five-run second.  The duo of Gubbine and Amburgey again posted RBI base hits and Jordanna Freemer drove in a pair with a double as SF State scored all five of the runs with nobody out.

The Gators tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to lead 9-2 before SSU scored a pair in the top of the seventh.  The Seawolves got two-run singles from freshmen Jesse Talaugon and Nicole Cordova.

The Seawolves are back in action next weekend when they head north to take on Chico State in a CCAA doubleheader.
