Seawolves Still Searching For First CCAA Win

James Sandoval had 17 points to lead the Seawolves on Friday night
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Seawolves had a nice effort against the CCAA's first place team, but they couldn't finish the job as Cal State Monterey Bay emerged from Seawolf Gym with a 65-61 win over Sonoma State on Friday night.  The Seawolves drop to 4-6, 0-3 CCAA on the season while the Otters remain in a tie for the league lead at 9-1, 3-0 CCAA.

The Seawolves led late, but four turnovers and 1-for-5 shooting down the stretch spelled defeat for the young Sonoma squad.  Up 58-57 with three and a half to go, the Seawolves saw Monterey Bay connect on back-to-back layups to take the game away.  The Otters were just good enough down the stretch from the free throw line, converting four of their six attempts in the final minute.

Steve Monreal paced the Otters with 20 points and five assists.  He also had three steals and five rebounds in a solid all-around game for the CCAA's top scorer.  Joe Mitchell was also solid, completing his night with 18 points and six rebounds.

James Sandoval came off the bench for a team-high 17 points for Sonoma State.  Ben Washington had 14 points and five assists and Curtis Harrison led the squad with eight rebounds.

The Seawolves will hope to turn things around tomorrow night when they host San Francisco State.  The Gators (8-2, 2-1 CCAA) fell in overtime to Humboldt State, 76-74, on Friday night.
