Men's Basketball Turns Away SF State, 80-68

James Sandoval on his way to two of his career-high 23 points on Saturday
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  One night removed from a tough loss, the Sonoma State men's basketball team turned in one of their finest performances of the season in an 80-68 win over San Francisco State on Saturday night in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves shot over 70% in the second half to cruise to a victory and earn their first CCAA win of the season.  Sonoma is now 5-6, 1-3 CCAA.  The Gators fall for the second straight night and see their record tumble to 8-3, 2-2 CCAA.

The Seawolves led virtually the entire game (it was tied 5-5 early in the first half) and they used a 12-2 run to quickly open up a 13-point halftime lead, 32-19.

In the second half, SF State was able to get the lead into single digits, but they would get no closer than six at 72-66 with 1:39 remaining.

After holding the Gators' potent offense to just 19 points in the first half, the Seawolves allowed 49 in the second.  However, Sonoma scored 48 points themselves, thanks in part to a blistering 70.8% shooting clip (17-for-24).

For the game, Sonoma State out shot San Francisco State 56.0% to 40.0%.

James Sandoval was brilliant, finishing the game with 23 points and nine rebounds.  Steven Pratt pitched in with 18 points and Keith Garner tied Sandoval for team-high honors with nine boards.  Mike Nelson and Ben Washington each turned in a dozen points as well and Gerred Link dished out a career-high eight assists.

Brad Visman had a nice game for the Gators, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Robert Hayes went for 16 and Phoenix O'Rourke connected on four three-pointers on his way to 14 points.

Next up for the Seawolves is a road trip to Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State next weekend.
