Women's Basketball Falls To Lumberjacks, 77-59

ARCATA, Calif- Senior Stephanie Barnes had team-highs of 11 points and seven rebounds but Sonoma State could not overcome 22 points by Humboldt State's Brittney Taylor and Bree Halsey and a double-double by Andrea Bobic as the Lumberjacks defeated the Seawolves 77-59 in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball play on Tuesday night at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata.

The Seawolves fell to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA. Humboldt State remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0 and improves to 5-1 overall.

Barnes got the Seawolves off to a fast start against the Lumberjacks, giving Sonoma State the early 13-7 lead with a three-pointer at 15:59 to go in the opening half but Humboldt State went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes the regain the lead at 17-16. Sonoma State would stay close with Humboldt State but the 'Jacks would go on another eight point run towards the end of the half, helping them to take a 38-31 lead into halftime.

Out of the intermission, Humboldt State would increase their lead to double digits and it would remain that way for the rest of the evening. Taylor, a two-time CCAA Player of the Week already this season, and Halsey led all scorers with the aforementioned 22 points. Bobic added a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds to help the Lumberjacks remain unbeaten in their conference schedule early on.

Sonoma State was led by the 11 and seven of Barnes and Jaclyn Bisordi added nine points. The Seawolves crashed the boards all evening, coming down with 41 rebounds, including 18 offensive, to HSU's 34.

The Seawolves will step out of conference play and return home to face Notre Dame de Namur on Monday (Dec. 14) at The Wolves' Den. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
