Softball Splits Rainy Doubleheader With Toros

Nicole Cordova hit the Seawolves' first home run of the season on Friday
CARSON, Calif-  After dropping game one by a 4-3 score, the Sonoma State softball team rallied for a 4-2 win in game two to earn a split against Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CCAA openers for both teams in Carson on Friday.  Game two was shortened to five innings because of rain.  The split leaves the Seawolves at 3-4, 1-1 CCAA while the Toros go to 3-5, 1-1 CCAA.

The opening game saw the Seawolves get out to a 3-0 lead after four and a half innings thanks to a Janelle Arnold steal of home, a Toro error, and an RBI double by Nicole Cordova.  In the bottom the fifth, the Toros erupted for four runs on two-run homers by Rachel McEwen and Kristin Tanaka.

The Seawolves got four hits in game one, two off the bat of leadoff hitter Simone BrandaliseLindsay Emmel was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs in an inning and two thirds of relief.

In game two, the Seawolves and Toros traded early runs before a three-run third inning by Sonoma broke things open.  Brandalise had an RBI single and Cordova blasted a two-run home run in the big inning. 

Despite being held to just two hits, the Seawolves were able to win thanks to a solid pitching effort from Emmel and winning pitcher Brittany Reynolds

The teams have decided to push back the start of tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, in hopes of dodging the wet weather.
