Softball Splits Against No. 2 Humboldt State

Brittany Williams tossed four shutout innings in Thursday's first game
ARCATA, Calif-  Sonoma State handed defending national champion Humboldt State a 4-1 loss in the opening game of their CCAA doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, snapping a 29-game losing streak to the Lumberjacks.  Humboldt went on to win game two, 10-0, to earn a split in the twinbill.  The Seawolves go to 4-7, 2-4 CCAA while the 'Jacks stand at 5-1, 1-1 CCAA.

Thursday's game one win was the Seawolves' first victory over the Lumberjacks since the 2002 season.  Scoreless through four innings, thanks to the strong pitching of starter Brittany Williams, the 'Jacks had a chance to score in the bottom of the fourth, but their rally was ended by a brilliant Nikki Jaime catch and throw to get an advancing Humboldt runner at home.

The Seawolves would get all the runs they would need half an inning later when Danielle Lowe scored on a fielder's choice to open the scoring and pinch-hitter Carli Feuerbach singled home another run shortly thereafter.  Sonoma would add to the lead in the seventh on RBI singles by Jaime and Simone Brandalise

Game two was all Lumberjacks as they raced to a 5-0 lead after one inning against Sonoma starter Brittany Reynolds.  The Seawolves would manage just three hits in the nightcap.

The Seawolves and Lumberjacks will close out the series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
