Coyotes Outrun Seawolves In Saturday CCAA Action

Ben Washington had 18 points on Saturday against the Coyotes
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif-  Sonoma State more than doubled their scoring output from Friday night, but it still wouldn't be enough as Cal State San Bernardino pulled away for a 92-83 win on Saturday evening at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.  The Seawolves drop to 11-14, 7-11 CCAA while the Coyotes improve to 15-9, 13-5 CCAA.

The Seawolves are now alone in eighth place, but after Cal State L.A.'s win over Stanislaus, that lead is just one game.  The Seawolves and Golden Eagles are set to play in the regular season finale on Friday night at Seawolf Gym with a post-season berth possibly on the line.

In the first half, the Seawolves seemed like a completely different team than the one that took the court in Pomona on Friday.  Sonoma raced to a 48-47 halftime lead, securing one of their most prolific offensive halves of the season.

The second half, however, swayed toward the Coyotes.  Early in the frame, the Coyotes got out to a six-point lead, before four quick points by Sonoma pulled the margin to two.  From that point, with 14:00 left, the Coyotes went on an 8-0 run to take a ten-point lead.

Though the lead wouldn't swell back above ten, it would stay above five as the Seawolves had trouble chipping away against the CCAA's second-place team.

Keith Garner led the Seawolves with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.  He also had a team-high seven rebounds.  Ben Washington had 18 points and four assists and Steven Pratt posted 13 points.

Brandon Brown led the Coyotes with a game-high 25 points.

The Seawolves close out the regular season next weekend at home.  Standing in front of Friday's showdown with Cal State L.A. will be a battle with conference frontrunner Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday.
