Softball Wins Two Of Three On Sunday

Simone Brandalise had three hits in Sunday's finale
TURLOCK, Calif-  The Sonoma State softball team rebounded from a couple of opening day losses by winning two of their three games on Sunday afternoon and evening in Turlock.  The Seawolves opened the day with a 1-0 win over conference rival Cal State Dominguez Hills.  After a 2-1 loss to Montana State-Billings, they mercy-ruled Davis & Elkins 8-0 on Sunday night.  The Seawolves will return to Sonoma County with a 2-3 record.

In Friday's opener, the Seawolves got an excellent effort from Brittany Reynolds and Lindsay Emmel, who teamed up for the shutout.  Reynolds got the start and went three innings, giving up two hits.  Emmel came in for the final four innings and also allowed two hits while striking out four.  The Seawolves got the game's lone run in the sixth when Jessica Abelia singled in Janelle Arnold
.
Brittany Williams pitched well in the second game, allowing only one earned run in six innings, but the Sonoma offense struggled with just four hits against Montana State-Billings pitching in a 2-1 loss.  After the teams traded runs in the first, the Yellowjackets collected the game-winner in the fourth inning thanks to two errors.

In game three, the Seawolves rolled over the Senators of Davis & Elkins University, 8-0 in five innings. The Seawolves scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.  Simone Brandalise paced the offense with three hits as the Seawolves matched their hit output from the first four games of the weekend with 12.  Reynolds had another tremendous outing, allowing three hits and striking out nine in five innings of work.

The Davis & Elkins game was a neutral site contest, not officially part of the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational.

Next week the Seawolves open up the CCAA schedule with a four-game series at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
