Jacob Fiss went 5-for-6 on Friday to lead 18th-ranked Sonoma State to a 14-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay in the first game of a four-game set on Friday afternoon in Seaside. The Seawolves improve to 13-5, 6-5 CCAA while the Otters drop to 5-22, 2-11 CCAA.
The Seawolves were helped out on Friday by 14 walks by Otter pitchers. Ten of them alone went to the first two hitters in the lineup,
Kris Haycock (4) and
Leo Avila (6).
Fiss' 5-for-6 day included a pair of doubles, four runs scored, and two RBIs.
Nick Ramos also had a nice day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.
Gary Moran went the first 3 2/3 innings and was credited with the win. The Seawolves turned to
Kendall Davis and
Troy Brown in relief, both of which turned in scoreless outings.
The Seawolves blew the game open with a nine run eighth inning and have now outscored the Otters 46-8 in the last two games between the two.
The series will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader.
