Baseball Take Series With 6-3 Win Over CSUMB

Joe Slater led the way for Sonoma State in Sunday's win
SEASIDE, Calif-  Behind a tremendous showing from Joe Slater, Sonoma State defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 6-3 in the finale of a four-game CCAA baseball series in Seaside on Sunday afternoon.  Slater went 4-for-4 with three doubles as the Seawolves closed out a three games to one series win.  Sonoma is now 15-6, 8-6 CCAA while the Otters tumble to 6-24, 2-13 CCAA.

Slater lifted his batting average to an unearthly .714 on the season.  The Rancho Cotate High School product is 10-for-14 on the season with five doubles and a triple.

Sonoma went up 2-0 in the second inning when Ryan Stevens and Slater each delivered RBI doubles.  Slater sparked another rally in the fifth to push the lead to three.  SSU would go up 4-0 before the Otters cut into the lead with a three-run sixth.  Single runs in the eighth and ninth, including a solo homer from Leo Avila put the icing on the cake.

Morgan Rodriguez earned the win, allowing four hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.  Brian Flint pitched the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.  Jacob Fiss also appeared in relief for Sonoma.

Slater wasn't the only Seawolf to have a big day as Avila finished with three hits and both Kris Haycock and Kyle Jones had two hits.

The Seawolves will host Keio University in an exhibition doubleheader on Monday.
