SAN FRANCISCO, Calif- The Sonoma State baseball team continued their dominance over San Francisco State with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Mahoney Field in San Francisco. The Seawolves bested the Gators by scores of 7-5 and 5-1 to improve to 18-6, 11-6 CCAA. The Gators fall to 6-19, 2-17 CCAA.
With the wins, the Seawolves have now won 20 consecutive games against the Gators, dating back to 2006.
In game one, the Seawolves used a five-run fifth inning to overcome the Gators. This despite, SF State scoring in five of their nine innings.
Max Kirk and
Kris Haycock each had RBI singles and
Kyle Jones turned in a two-run double in the big fifth frame.
Morgan Rodriguez got the win after striking out six in six innings.
Taylor Lewis pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season. Kirk and
Brian Wright each had two hits to lead Sonoma.
The Seawolves got a solid tag team effort from
Kendall Davis and
Troy Brown in the nightcap to earn a 5-1 victory. Sonoma scored three runs in the third and two in the sixth as
Leo Avila had a nice game with two hits and two RBIs. Haycock also had two hits as the Seawolves held the Gators to just six hits as a team.
The Seawolves and Gators will conclude their series tomorrow afternoon with a single game in Rohnert Park. The game time was moved from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm due to a wet forecast for Sunday morning.
