ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State softball team picked up two important conference wins Friday afternoon at Seawolf Field, as the Seawolves swept their double header against Cal State San Bernardino. Sonoma was victorious in game one, 6-1, and shutout the Coyotes in the finale, 3-0. The Seawolves improve to 29-19 overall and 13-12 in the CCAA, while San Bernardino drops to 21-29 and 12-14 in conference play.
The Seawolves ace shined again Friday afternoon, as
Lindsay Emmel pitched a complete game two-hitter in game one, and came back in the nightcap to pitch the final four innings to earn her team-leading 13th victory of the year.
Sonoma would get all the runs they needed in the first inning of the opener, as the Seawolves put up a four spot.
Nicole Cordova drove in
Kayla Ledford and
Jessica Abelia on a single to center field, giving Sonoma the 2-1 lead. Sonoma State increased their lead to 4-1 on an error by the Coyotes left fielder, which allowed
Simone Brandalise and pinch-runner
Danielle Lowe to score.
Sonoma tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the second on a Brandalise double to left-center that scored Cordova and Ledford.
In game two,
Brittany Reynolds and Emmel combined to hold the Coyotes to three hits, as Sonoma scored one run in the third, fifth, and sixth innings to hold on for the sweep.
Janelle Arnold went 2-for-3 with an RBI, one single, and one double.
Ashley Sardina tallied the other Seawolves RBI on an infield single to second base that platted Ledford in the sixth.
The Seawolves will wrap up their series with the Coyotes Saturday. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
