ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Head coach Jaime Wallin earned her 100th career victory at Sonoma State Saturday afternoon at Seawolf Field, as the Seawolves continued their red-hot play with another twinbill sweep over Cal State San Bernardino. The Seawolves rolled in game one, 10-1, and defeated the Coyotes in the nightcap 2-0. Sonoma improves to 31-19 overall and 15-12 in the CCAA, while the Coyotes fall to 21-31 and 12-16 in league play.
In game one, the Coyotes struck in the top of the first when Courtney Wilhelms sent a
Lindsay Emmel pitch deep over the left field fence for her second home run of the season.
Sonoma would strike back in the very next half inning, as
Janelle Arnold and
Jessica Abelia were platted on an errant throw by the Coyotes third baseman that sailed over the catcher's head.
Kayla Ledford was driven in on a
Simone Brandalise ground out, and the Seawolves concluded their busy inning on an
Ashley Sardina RBI single up the middle.
Sonoma State broke the game open in the bottom of the second with six runs on seven hits. Sardina collected two more RBI's on a single up the middle to plate Abelia and Cordova. Sardina finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI's, two singles, and one triple.
For the third time in the series the Seawolves opened a game by scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Arnold led off game two with a double to left field and was driven in by a Ledford single up the middle. The scoring would conclude for the afternoon on a RBI single to center by Brandalise.
Lindsay Emmel came in relief to post her third win of the series and improve to 14-9 on the season. Emmel allowed one hit and struck out two Coyotes in four innings of relief.
The Seawolves will conclude regular season play next weekend at home when they battle San Francisco State on Friday and Saturday.
