Softball Tops Chaminade; Game Two Rained Out

Kayla Ledford drove in three runs on Tuesday afternoon
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State took advantage of a break in the clouds on Tuesday afternoon to secure a 6-1 win over Chaminade in the first game of their planned doubleheader.  The game was shortened to five innings and game two was canceled due to rain.  The win lifts the Seawolves to 26-19 overall.  The Silverswords fall to 7-32.

The Silveswords picked up the game's first run in the second inning when Shalin Yamaguchi hit a solo home run to right field.  The Seawolves would be quick to answer, however.

After a quick out was recorded, the Seawolves had seven consecutive batters reach base, the big hits being a double by Ashley Britton, and RBI singles by Janelle Arnold, Jessica Abelia, and Kayla Ledford.  It was Ledford's two-run knock to center field that pushed the lead to 5-1.  Sonoma would tack on another run in the fourth on another RBI single from Ledford.

Britton finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and the trio of Arnold, Abelia, and Ledford- Sonoma's 1-2-3 hitters, each had two hits as well.

Lindsay Emmel got the win, tossing four innings and striking out seven.

The Seawolves return to action on Friday when they host the Academy of Art University.
