Softball Heading To Arcata For NCAA West Regional

CCAA Pitcher of the Year Lindsay Emmel leads the Seawolves
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  For the second time in the last three seasons, the Sonoma State softball team is "going dancing".  And just like at last weekend's CCAA Championship Tournament, their first round opponent will be a very familiar one... top seed Humboldt State.

This time, the Seawolves will have the task of beating the Lumberjacks on their home field in Arcata.  Last Thursday, Sonoma defeated Humboldt 6-2 in the opening game of the conference tournament.  The 'Jacks would go 0-2 at the CCAAs, but held on to the No. 1 seed in the region.  The Seawolves and Lumberjacks have split the season series thus far, three games apiece.

Also competing in the Humboldt "sub-regional" will be No. 4 Cal State Stanislaus and No. 5 Montana State-Billings.  The winners of this double elimination tournament will face the winner of the other "sub-regional", which is to be played in St. George, Utah.

The Seawolves are 34-23 on the season and making just their fourth appearance ever in the NCAA Tournament.  However, since Jaime Wallin became coach of the team four years ago, the Seawolves have gone to the event twice, the first time in 2007.

All of Sonoma State's games from the NCAA West Regional will be broadcast on the Seawolf Sports Network's Channel 2.
