ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State continued its hot streak Thursday night as the Seawolves rolled to a three-set sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills (25-9, 25-10, 25-16), improving to 9-0 on the season, marking the best start ever in school history. The Toros remain winless in 2009, falling to 0-8.
The Seawolves got off to a fast start in the first set, hitting at a .481 clip with 15 kills and just two errors in 27 attacks. In set two, the Seawolves cooled off a bit, but still managed to hit .333 while the Sonoma State defense held the Toros to just nine kills in 65 attacks with 15 errors (-.092) in the first two sets.
Cal State Dominguez Hills kept it close in the third set but Sonoma State proved to be too much, holding the Toros to just -.009 in the match (18 kills, 19 errors, 108 attacks). The Seawolves, meanwhile, got 14 kills from sophomore
Keala Peterson and 11 from freshman
Ally Sather to pace the offense that hit a blazing .340 in the match.
Three Seawolves had double-digit digs, including senior
Ali Walker (16), sophomore
Taylor Krenwinkel (14) and Peterson (12). Senior setter
Lindsay Brown handed out a game-high 27 assists and Walker aced four serves for Sonoma State in the victory.
For the Toros, Heather Rushton had a team-high five kills as Ashley Clark had 14 digs.
Sonoma State will return to the court on Saturday to take on Cal State L.A., who swept Humboldt State on Thursday night at Arcata to improve to 5-3 this season. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at The Wolves' Den.
