Volleyball Goes To 8-0 With Win Over Vikings

Keala Peterson had 22 kills to lead the Seawolves on Friday
ELLENSBURG, Wash-  Big nights from newcomers Keala Peterson and Ally Sather spelled victory for Sonoma State on Friday evening at the CWU Invitational in Ellensburg, Washington.  The 24th-ranked Seawolves downed 21st-ranked Western Washington three games to one to improve to 8-0 on the season.  The Vikings drop to 5-3.

The eight consecutive wins to start out the season tie a school record set by the 2001 squad.

The Seawolves dropped the Vikings on Friday night by scores of 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22.

Western, which was handed a defeat earlier in the day by an upstart Academy of Art club, led throughout the first set and was able to withstand a late Sonoma rally that knotted things up at 24.

The second set was also tight, but the Seawolves were able to reel off three straight down the stretch, thanks in part to a pair of hitting errors by the Vikings.

The third and fourth were also tight affairs, but it would be too much Peterson and too much Sather down the stretch for the Seawolves.

Peterson turned in perhaps her finest game as a Seawolf, posting 22 kills and a hitting percentage of .348.  Sather was right behind with 21 at a .208 clip.

Lindsay Brown had 54 assists in guiding the offense.  She also had a team-high two service aces.  Ali Walker had 20 digs and Rikki Buckshnis was tops with seven blocks.

Emily Jepsen led the Vikings with 11 kills on the night.

ALL-TOURNAMENT:  Lindsay Brown and Ally Sather were named to the All-Tournament squad with Brown taking home co-MVP honors.

The Seawolves have completed the non-conference portion of their schedule.  They will open up CCAA play next Thursday when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Box Score:  Sonoma State 3, Western Washington 1
