LOS ANGELES, Calif- Freshman
Patrick Scott scored a team-high 18 points to lead three others in double-figures and Sonoma State held off a late run by Cal State L.A. to upset the Golden Eagles, 64-60, to kick of the second half of the CCAA schedule on Friday night in Los Angeles. The Seawolves improved to 6-12 overall and 5-8 in conference play. The Golden Eagles fell to 11-7 and 7-6.
Cal State L.A. jumped out to a comfortable 15-6 lead very early in the first half, but Sonoma State wouldn't let the Golden Eagle lead get any higher while the Seawolves battled their way back into the contest. CSULA held an eight point lead at 25-17 with 5:49 remaining in the opening period but Sonoma State went on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to take the 30-27 lead into the intermission.
The Seawolves then got out to a double-digit lead just three minutes into the second half (43-33) after freshman
Will Olsem nailed a three-pointer -- three of his 11 points on the night. Cal State L.A. made several comeback attempts over the next 11 minutes, but Sonoma State regained 10-point leads a couple more times.
However, the Golden Eagles made a small run under a minute left in regulation and pulled to within two points on a coast-to-coast layup by Dwayne Jones to narrow the score to 62-60 with 24 seconds remaining. Two free-throw shots by sophomore
Steven Pratt six seconds later moved the Seawolf lead back out to four points. Cal State L.A. then took the ball down the court but missed three consecutive shots before the buzzer sounded, giving Sonoma State the 64-60 upset on Cal State L.A.'s home floor.

Chad Chambers scored 11 points each to pace the Seawolves, who outscored the Golden Eagles bench just 9-0. Freshman

Four players scored in double-figures for Cal State L.A. as well, with Carl Hoffman leading the way with 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Seawolves avenged an earlier loss to the Golden Eagles, when CSULA visited Rohnert Park in December and stole a narrow 77-72 victory.
Sonoma State will hit the hardwood again on Saturday when it will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Torodome in Carson. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
