CARSON, Calif- Sonoma State got within five points late in the game, but Cal State Dominguez Hills pulled away with under a minute left to take the 65-56 victory over the Seawolves on Saturday night at the Torodome in Carson. The Seawolves fell to 6-13 overall and 5-9 in the CCAA. The Toros, who lost seven in a row to start the season, improved to 9-10 and 9-5 in conference play.

Cal State Dominguez Hills got off to a real fast start, storming out to a 11-0 lead. Sonoma State scored its first points of the game at the 12:16 mark of the first half when freshman Patrick Scott nailed a three point basket. It was the start of a 12-4 run to cut into the Toro lead at 15-12. The Seawolves then grabbed a narrow one-point lead at 18-17 with 4:45 remaining the opening period. Both teams fought back and forth, but a three-pointer by freshman Will Olsem gave Sonoma State the 25-24 lead at halftime.

Just five minutes into the second half, the Toros rode a 16-5 run to take an 11 point advantage at 40-29. Cal State Dominguez Hills then stormed back out to its highest lead at 17 points with 5:23 remaining, to all put the game away. However, Sonoma State made things interesting with 1:25 left in regulation to come within five points at 57-52. It would be as close as the Seawolves would get as the Toros took the 65-56 victory, avenging an earlier loss to Sonoma State back in December.

Three players scored in double-figures for SSU, including Olsem's 14 points. Sophomore Steven Pratt also chipped in with 14 points while senior Chad Chambers and freshman Patrick Scott added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Sonoma State's defense played tough, forcing 20 CSUDH turnovers.

The Toros were led by the 17 points of Tim McLaurin. Three other players (Jamel Ward, Maquintise Davis and Michael Cox) all scored in double-figures as well. Cal State Dominguez Hills outrebounded SSU 40-25 and outshot the Seawolves 46 percent to 33.3 percent.

Sonoma State will return home to kick off its final homestand of the season with a tilt between the Seawolves and the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay. Tip off at The Wolves' Den is set for 7:30 p.m.
