No. 11 Seawolves Drop Both Ends Of Doubleheader

Kyle Jones had a big two-run single in game one on Sunday.
SANTA ROSA, Calif-  Though technically a home game, the confines of Santa Rosa Junior College's Cook-Sypher Field were certainly not friendly on Sunday as Sonoma State dropped a pair of games to Western Oregon, 4-3 and 5-0.  The 11th-ranked Seawolves fall to 5-3 on the season while the 30th-ranked Wolves improve to 2-7.

The wins give Western Oregon a two games to one series victory over Sonoma State.  Sonoma won game one of the series back on Thursday, 8-7 at Seawolf Diamond.

Western Oregon got to Sonoma State starter Scott Alexander for three runs in the second inning to go up 3-0.  They were aided by a trio of walks from Alexander and got RBI singles from Daniel Dillard and Joe Pratt.

The Wolves were cruising with Michael Ward on the mound, holding the Seawolves hitless until a Max Shupe single in the sixth inning.

The Seawolves would make it 3-1 in the seventh on an RBI single from Austin Hogans, but the Wolves would proceed to pick up a huge insurance run in the eighth when Dillard drove in another run on a single up the middle.

Sonoma State would rally for two runs in the ninth, both coming on a two-run single by Kyle Jones, but with two outs and the bases loaded, Ryan Stevens struck out to end the game.

In game two, the Seawolves continued to struggle at the plate, managing just three hits off Jacob Pettit and Dustin Fulks.  Two of their hits came off the bat of Bobby Cozine

Western Oregon scored their first run, against Sonoma starter Thomas Lee, in the third on an RBI double from Devon Bouvier.  Two long balls would follow in the fifth and sixth by Garrett Breda and Dillard to add some breathing room.

The Seawolves will open up CCAA play next Friday at Cal State San Bernardino.
