Stroud Supplies Only Offense In 6-1 Loss At CSUDH

LeeAnn Stroud hit her first home run of the season on Saturday.
CARSON, Calif- LeeAnn Stroud hit her first home run this season, a solo shot, but it was the only offense that Sonoma State could muster up as the Seawolves suffered their first loss in California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a 6-1 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at Carson. The Seawolves fall to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA. The Toros, meanwhile, move to 7-3 and 4-3.

Cal State Dominguez Hills jumped all over starting pitcher Samantha Lipperd the first chance they got, scoring five runs on three hits, including a three-run home run by Rose Vargas. Lipperd would settle down the rest of the game, giving up just one more run and five more hits through the final five innings.

It would be up to the Seawolf offense to close the gap, however the Toros' Stephanie Jimenez allowed just two hits in the first four innings before giving up the solo shot to Stroud in the fifth. It would prove to be the only run by the Seawolves on Saturday. Jimenez went the distance for Cal State Dominguez Hills, scattering five hits and striking out six.

Stroud finished with two hits in three at bats for Sonoma State. Vargas had two hits and the aforementioned three RBI to lead the Toros.

Originally scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday, the five-game series between the Seawolves and Toros has been changed due to the weather in Southern California. The two teams played a single game on Saturday and will play a doubleheader on Sunday. The opening game on Sunday will be a CCAA game and the nightcap will be recorded as a non-conference tilt.

Box Score: Cal State Dominguez Hills 6, Sonoma State 1
