HAYWARD, Calif- Despite leading 6-4 after the first two periods of play, the Sonoma State women's water polo team couldn't hold on to the lead long enough, as the Seawolves fell 10-9 to 19th-ranked Cal State East Bay on Saturday morning in Hayward. The Seawolves drop to 2-14 overall and the Pioneers, who have won five straight matches, improve to 15-6.
After being down 4-2 after the first period, Sonoma State fought back and scored four goals in the second period and kept the Pioneers off the board, helping to take the 6-4 lead into the half time break. However, the Seawolf defense surrendered six goals in the final 16 minutes of play and could only muster up three scores of their own.
Brooke Smith led the team with three goals and
Holly Armijo added two.
