CHICO, Calif-
LeeAnn Stroud had three hits and two RBI for Sonoma State on Saturday, but the Seawolves couldn't get much going on offense and Chico State grabbed the 5-3 and 3-1 victories at the University Softball Field in Chico. Sonoma State, ranked 21st in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, saw its five-game win streak come to a halt while falling to 20-7 overall and 15-5 in CCAA play. The Wildcats go to 13-11 (10-10 CCAA).

Stroud got the offense going for the Seawolves in the opener with a two RBI triple in the top of the third, scoring
Janelle Arnold and
Skylynn Myers to give SSU the 2-1 lead. Chico State's Jessica McDermott settled down thereafter, retiring eight straight Seawolves through the next two and two thirds innings.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a couple of doubles, two fielder's choice plays and a costly error that put Chico State up 5-3, chasing
Julianne Martinez from the game.
Samantha Lipperd came in to stop the bleeding and allowed just one hit and no runs in her short one and one thirds innings of work.
Sonoma State couldn't get anything else going in the seventh, despite getting a runner on second with one out. Stroud had two of the four hits by the Seawolves in the first game --
Ashley Britton and
Brittany Martinez accounted for the other hits. Britton added an RBI as well.
Martinez fell to 9-4 in the loss after tossing four and a third innings, giving up the five runs, all of which were unearned, walking one and striking out one. Her counterpart, McDermott, improves to 5-2 after giving up the four hits and three runs. She walked four and struck out six.
Game Two Box Score - Chico State 3, #21 Sonoma State 1
After the Seawolves took a quick 1-0 lead in the second, Chico State came right back to score one of their own on a RBI double by Kelly Head. Kacie McCarthy then shut the high-flying Seawolf offense down, retiring 15 of the next 17 batters to grab the complete game victory and improve to 6-7 this season. She gave up just five hits, the one run, while striking out one.
Arnold went 2-for-3 in the night cap, Stroud, B. Martinez and
Rochelle Vanyi had one hit apiece. B. Martinez had the lone RBI in the game; an RBI single up the middle that scored Vanyi in the second.
Lipperd went the distance for Sonoma State, scattering seven hits, allowing three runs (two earned), walking one and striking out two.
After Cal State Monterey Bay split at Humboldt State on Saturday, Sonoma State remains in first place, just one game ahead of the Otters. The Seawolves will now step out of conference play next weekend to participate in the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock. They will open up the tournament on Friday against Great Northwest Athletic Conference-foes Northwest Nazarene (1:30 p.m.) and Saint Martin's (6 p.m.).
