Box Score: Cal State East Bay 69, Sonoma State 53
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Coming into Saturday night's contest as the CCAA's hottest shooting team, it was everything but for Sonoma State. Visiting Cal State East Bay (3-15, 1-13 CCAA), who came in to the game as the conference's only team without a conference victory, rallied to outscore the Seawolves 48-26 in the second half, en route to a 69-53 win over Sonoma State (7-11, 5-9 CCAA) at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.
The Seawolves jumped out to a 10-4 lead early on in the game, but the Pioneers, hungry for their first CCAA win, remained close and the lead changed five different times before Sonoma State could escape the first half with a 27-21 lead at halftime.
However, the shots just wouldn't go Sonoma State's way in the second half. Cal State East Bay went on a tear, outscoring the Seawolves 40-13 in the first 15 minutes of the final period, including a 15-0 run at one point, to cruise to the easy victory on Saturday night.
Uncharacteristic of the Seawolves, the team hit just 36 percent of their shots (18 of 50), the lowest output this season. Meanwhile, the Pioneers converted 22 of 50 shots (44 percent), helping the visitors escape Rohnert Park with the convincing win.
SSU had just one player score in double-figures,
Patrick Scott, who mustered up ten points.
Matthew French had nine points and
Ben Washington chipped in with eight.
For Cal State East Bay, Will Freedman, led all players with 18 points, including three straight three-pointers on three straight Pioneer possessions that put CSUEB up to its largest lead of 21 points at the 5:27 mark. Mark Samuels had 15 points and Roshun Wynne added 14.
Sonoma State, who snapped a two-game win streak, will host rival Chico State on Thursday at The Wolves' Den. The highly-anticipated matchup between to high-powered offenses will tipoff at approximately 7:30 p.m. in Rohnert Park.
