Nicole Gragnola, as the Seawolves (20-8. 14-6 CCAA) kept their postseason hopes alive with a huge 3-1 victory over the host Tritons (19-9, 14-6 CCAA) on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.
With only two matches left in the regular season, the win moves SSU into a three-way tie for second place in the CCAA standings alongside San Francisco State and UC San Diego. Cal State San Bernardino won its seventh straight conference championship with its 3-1 win over SFSU Saturday night.
Sather had a huge night on offense, hitting at a .343 clip with the aforementioned 15 kills and just three errors in 35 attacks, matching Densberger's team-high 15.5 points; Densberger hammered in 12 kills with two service aces and 1.5 total blocks, adding 15 digs on defense for her sixth double-double of the season. Seitz recorded her sixth straight match with double-digit kills with 14 kills while
Kelsey Hull added eight. The Seawolves hit .197 as a team, but the SSU defense held the Tritons to just .171.
For UC San Diego, Sophie Rowe pounded a match-high 18 kills, while Danielle Dahle chipped in with 15. Brittany Lombardi had 33 digs to lead all defenders on Saturday.
Sonoma State has just two matches left in the regular season -- both on the road -- beginning with a Thursday night at Humboldt State (7:00 p.m.) before finishing at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday (7:00 p.m.)
The Seawolves were ranked at No. 9 in the official NCAA Division II West Region rankings coming into this weekend of play and will need to be ranked in the top eight in the final regional poll that is scheduled to be released via a live NCAA tournament selection show on Sun., Nov. 19 at 7:00 pm to qualify for their fifth straight postseason appearance.
