Seawolves Drop Two In Day One Of Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif- The Sonoma State Women's Water Polo team traveled down to San Diego for the two day Triton Invitational, going up against San Diego State and Hartwick College in day one.  The first match of the day, against SDSU, was one to forget as Sonoma State would go down 16-2.  Sonoma State would put up a fight against Hartwick College but would come up short, losing 14-8.

Game 1: San Diego State-16, Sonoma State-2

The Seawolf offense was non-exsistent in the first three quarters, not scoring a goal until the 7:30 mark of the fourth on a shot by Natalie Del Carlo.  The Seawolves gave up 16 goals in the first quarter and was forced to changed goalies after starter Ariel Lockshaw let in 10 goals in the first half.

SSU would only score once more in the game, coming from the hand of Bridgette Souza with eight seconds left in regulation.

Del Carlo and Souza were the only players to put one in the back of the cage for the Seawolves.  Amber Pezzola and Meaghan Poland led the Aztecs in scoring, each with four goals.  Anique Herman and Tori Long contirbuted two goals each in the Aztec win.  Six other players for SDSU netted a goal.

Lockshaw got the start for the Seawolves and tallied three saves while in the cage before Courtney Risden went in at halftime.  Risden had one save. 

Game 2: Hartwick College-14, Sonoma State-8

Sonoma State got off to a better start in their second game of the day against Hartwick College scoring two goals in the first quarter on shots from Adrienne Bisharat and Nicole Browning.  The second quarter would show dismal offensive production with only two goals total, coming from the Hawks which would leave the score at 8-2 going into halftime.

Sonoma State would score three goals in the third quarter to match Hartwick's three.  Down six, the Seawolves would try to make a fourth quarter run but would prove unsuccessful.  The Hawks would match every ball put in the back of the cage by the Seawolves, scoring three in the fourth quarter as well, making the final score 14-8.

Lexi Morabito led the Seawolves in scoring with two goals, both coming in the fourth quarter.  Sonoma State had six other players with one goal each.  Lisa Bass led the way for Hartwick putting five balls in the back of the cage.  Sami Cappareli, Sasha Freeborn, Jemma Dendy Young, and Kylie Traube all put in two goals for the Hawks.  Cayley Tonkin contributed one goal.

Ariel Lockshaw was back in the cage for the Seawolves after a tough game against San Diego State.  She blocked nine shots and contributed one assist.

The Seawolves will be back in action tomorrow morning agaist Marist College starting at 9:20 am.
