Seawolves Lose To CSU Monterey Bay 16-9, Split Season Series

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --  Adrienne Bisharat netted four goals in the match for the Seawolves, but it would not be enough as the Sonoma State women's water polo team was unable to complete the season sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay, losing 16-9.  The loss drops the Seawolves to 7-16 for the season, 3-7 in WWPA play while the Otters improve to 11-10 for the season and 2-5 in the conference.

The Otters struck quickly with two goals to open the match before Sonoma State got on the board with a goal from Alexa May at the 3:47 mark of the first quarter.  The Seawolves would not score again in the quarter, but would give up three more CSUMB goals to put the score at 5-1 after one quarter.  The momentum continued for Cal State Monterey Bay as Alex Tyrrell netted a goal to start the second quarter.  Bisharat threw in the first of her four goals just 19 seconds later to make the score 6-2.  The Otters would outscore the Seawolves 4-2 to close out the half and take a 10-4 lead.

Bisharat came out firing in the third, scoring the only two goals for the Seawolves in the third quarter, both coming in less than a minute.  The Otters, however, went on to throw in four goals to take a commanding 14-6 lead going into the fourth quarter.  It wouldn't end there for CSUMB as Nikki Smart would score two more goals for the Otters to open the fourth quarter and take a ten-point lead.  Sonoma State scored three in the fourth quarter to make the final score 16-9.

Bisharat led the Seawolves with four goals followed by Lexii Morabito, who had two.  Natalie Del Carlo, Nicole Browning and May all had one in the loss.  Julie Cooper, Tyrrell, and Smart combined for 12 of the Otters' 16 goals, each putting four in the back of the cage.  Katie Sowul participated in the goal scoring, throwing in two.  Jackie Walters and Kylie Fields each contributed one goal in the winning effort.

Ariel Lockshaw started at goalkeeper for the Seawolves and had 13 saves along with an assist and a steal.

Sonoma State will return home to Rohnert Park on Thursday (Mar. 29) and take on Santa Clara in a conference match starting at 3:00 p.m at the Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool.
