Seawolves Fall To Cal State East Bay On Senior Day, 7-5

Senior Malina Lorring played in her final home collegiate match of her career on Friday against Cal State East Bay.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --  Adrienne Bisharat scored two goals in a back-and-forth match that involved four ties, but it was not enough as Sonoma State surrendered a pair of goals late in the fourth quarter to Cal State East Bay, losing the match, 7-5, on senior day.  The Seawolves drop to 7-18 on the season and 3-9 in the WWPA with the loss.  The Pioneers improve to 14-9 for the season and 7-4 in conference play.

Bisharat got the Seawolves on the board first with a goal at the 6:08 mark of the first quarter.  Cal State East Bay followed quickly with a goal just 20 seconds later to tie it at 1-1.  Claire Pierce put the Pioneers ahead 2-1 on a goal off of an offensive breakaway.  Sophie Armstrong tipped one into the back of the cage on a ball that deflected off of Sonoma State goalie Ariel Lockshaw to put CSU East Bay up 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second period, Alexa May cut the two-point deficit in half with a floater that fell right behind the Cal State East Bay goalkeeper.  The Seawolves knotted things up at 3-3 after a steal by Laura Kunz that led to a Lindsay Rangel breakaway goal, ending the half.

Bisharat netted her second goal of the game to start the third quarter, giving the Seawolves the lead, 4-3.  Cal State East Bay would not go away easily, tying it at 4-4 just 1:12 seconds later when Erica Crain fired one in past Lockshaw.

Coming out of a time out midway though the final frame, Caitlin Risden gave the Seawolves the lead on a shot that skipped underneath the outstretched arm of the CSU East Bay goalkeeper.  However, the Pioneers struck quickly to once again, tie it up at 5-5 on Crain's second goal of the match.  Sara Hudyn then put the Pioneers on top on a rebounded shot that ricochet off of Lockshaw's arm.  Pierce scored her second goal of the match to put Cal State East Bay up two points with 2:58 remaining in regulation.  Sonoma State was unable to overcome the two fourth-quarter goals by Cal State East Bay, ending their home season with the loss, 7-5.

For the Seawolves offensively, Bisharat led the way with two goals.  Risden, May, and Rangel each had one.  For the Pioneers, Crain and Pierce threw in two goals each.  Carly Clack, Armstrong, and Hudyn all netted one goal in the win.  Lockshaw made 10 saves in the cage.

Sonoma State will travel down to Santa Clara next Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 14-15) to take part in the Santa Clara Invitational.  The Seawolves will open up "The Bronco" against San Jose State that Saturday (Apr. 14), with first sprint scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
