ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --  Behind two early goals from Cara Curtin and a stellar defensive effort, the sixth-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team rolled to a 2-0 win over San Francisco State on Friday afternoon in CCAA play in Rohnert Park.  At 5-0-0 on the season, the Seawolves are now off to their best start since 1998.  San Francisco State dropped to 1-3-0, 0-3-0 with the loss.

Curtin and the Seawolves wasted almost no time on Friday afternoon, scoring the game's first goal just over seven minutes in.  Bree Robles was able to direct the ball to Curtin, who slotted it into the right side of the net.

Just over eight minutes later, Curtin made it a double, this time on a breakaway.  The speedy Santa Rosa native stretched the Gator defense, eventually beating several defenders on her way to the cage.  This time, Curtin's ball juked to the left, setting off another midfield celebration for Sonoma.

Just five games into the season, Curtin has already scored seven goals.  Since the 2000 season, only one player has scored more than seven goals in an entire season for Sonoma State (Lindsay Catton, with 9 in 2008).

As much attention as the offense draws, the Sonoma State defense deserves its share of recognition.  The Seawolves hounded the Gator strikers relentlessly, allowing just six shots and requiring goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua to make just one save.

With her second shutout of the season, Sciacqua moves within one of sixth place on the all-time Sonoma State list.  She has 12 shutouts in her career.

The Seawolves outshot the Gators 10-6, though SF State collected more corner kicks, 6-5.

Up next for the Seawolves is a Sunday afternoon clash with Cal Poly Pomona.  Kickoff is schedule for 2:00 pm.
