BOX SCORE Sonoma State 3, Cal State Monterey Bay 0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-18) -- Box Score

ROHNERT PARK --
Ally Sather helped the Sonoma State women's volleyball team make quick work of visiting Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night at The Wolves' Den, smashing 11 kills with no errors in 20 attacks to sport a season-high .550 hitting percentage as the Seawolves swept past the Otters in three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-18) in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener for both teams.  Sonoma State, which is receiving votes in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, rises to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.  Cal State Monterey Bay falls to 6-3 and 0-1.

It was all Seawolves from start to finish.  The Otters stayed with the hosts for the first part of the opening set, but after a 13-13 deadlock, SSU reeled off 12 of the next 16 points to cruise to a 25-17 win.  It was a different story in the second frame, as Sonoma State hit fire, hammering 19 kills in 30 swings, erring just twice for a blazing .567 clip; it led to a 25-16 win in set number two to give SSU a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, Cal State Monterey Bay again trailed from behind for most of the frame and just couldn't catch a fiery Sonoma State attack, falling 25-18 and surrendering the match to the host Seawolves in just one hour, 15 minutes.

In addition to Sather's unstoppable effort, Caylie Seitz smacked 10 kills to the floor, misfiring four times in 25 attacks.  Madelyn Densberger chipped in with nine kills and both Kelsey Hull and Regan Richert pounded eight kills apiece, en route to a .352 hitting percentage as a team.  Devin Shaver and Hayley Ross again shared the setting duties, handing out 22 and 20 assists, respectively.  Hull added five service aces and nine digs to lead all SSU players in both categories.

Julia Ashen led the way offensively for Cal State Monterey Bay, recording a match-high 12 kills, but no other Otter would have more than six kills.  As a team, CSUMB hit just .205 (29k-11e-88a).

Sonoma State will return to action on Saturday when it welcomes Cal State East Bay into The Wolves' Den.  First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
