BOX SCORE Cal State Dominguez Hills 71, Sonoma State 56 -- Box Score

ROHNERT PARK --
Will Olsem dropped in 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting, including 4 of 9 from three-point range, but the Sonoma State men's basketball team couldn't match the hot hand of visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills, falling 71-56 on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves fall to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the CCAA as the Toros move above .500 at 8-7 (4-4 CCAA).

After Jabri Jenkins scored on the first possession of the game, Cal State Dominguez Hills scored four straight points to take a 4-2 lead and it would be the only time Sonoma State would lead in the contest.  The teams would go back and forth with SSU knotting things up six times in the first seven minutes, but after a 14-14 deadlock at the 13:31 mark of the first half, CSUDH took the lead and wouldn't relinquish it.  The Toros went up by as much as 11 points at 30-19 with 4:55 to play in the opening period, but the Seawolves battled back and came within two points by halftime at 37-35.

It was a game of runs in the second half, as CSUDH jumped back out to an 11-point advantage at 15:38, but SSU came right back to cut the lead down to two at 50-48 with 11:14 to play.  However, the visiting Toros went on a 23-8 run over the final 11 minutes of play to secure the 15-point win.

Olsem led all players with the aforementioned 20 points, followed by 12 from Steve Lackey, who came off the bench and played 21 minutes.  Patrick Scott chipped in with nine points and handed out a team-high five assists.  As a team, the Seawolves were held to 40.7 percent from the floor on 22 of 54 shooting, including 8 of 20 from three-point range.  Sonoma attempted just seven shots from the free throw line, making four, while CSU Dominguez Hills went 7 for 12 at the charity stripe.

The Toros connected on 56.9 percent of their shots, draining 29 of 51 attempts, including 6 of 8 from long range.  CSUDH also held the advantage in rebounds, 35-21.  DeShaun Freeman led with 16 points, followed by 10 from Myron Green.

As of note, Olsem is just seven points from becoming the 12th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau in a career.  He stands at 993 career points.

Sonoma State will look to rebound next weekend when it hits the road on Thursday to take on Cal Poly Pomona before making the long trek north on Saturday to face Humboldt State in Arcata.  Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m..  The Seawolves then return home on Jan. 25 for a brief two-game homestand, beginning with a contest against Cal State San Bernardino.
