BOX SCORE San Francisco State 69, Sonoma State 65 -- Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO --
James Davis and Justin Herold combined for 37 points, including five three-pointers by Davis and 13 second-half points by Herold, but a late rally by Sonoma State came up just short in a 69-65 loss to San Francisco State on Friday night at The Swamp in San Francisco.  The Seawolves (1-6, 0-3 CCAA) have lost four straight and remain winless in CCAA play while the Gators improve to 4-2 (2-1 CCAA).

The first half was evenly played with the visitors taking a 28-23 lead with five minutes to go on a three-pointer by Davis, one of four by the sophomore in the opening period.  However, SF State went on a 13-2 run to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room.

The Gators eventually increased the lead to their largest of the evening at 17 points (57-40) nine minutes into the second half.  WIth 8:39 left in the game, David Ahern knocked down a three-pointer that began a furious 17-3 rally to put SSU down by just two points (62-60) with 1:49 remaining.  Both teams traded points down the stretch and a three-ball by Jason Walter with 14 ticks left also put the Seawolves within two points (67-65), but two free throws by Calvin Otiono with nine seconds on the clock sealed the four-point win for the Gators.

Davis led all players with 20 points on 7 of 14 from the field, including 5 of 11 from three-point range.  Herold scored 17 on 5 of 11 shooting and was a perfect 7 for 7 from the free throw line.

Four San Francisco State players scored in double figures, led by the 15 points from Will Overton, Jr. off the bench.

Sonoma State and San Francisco State will face each other once more before the end of the calendar year when the two squads meet up on Dec. 22 at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park for a matinee, tipping off at 4:00 pm.
