SAN FRANCISCO -- Kristina Fahey scored a team-high 14 points and
Hannah Sourek added 11 with 13 rebounds, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team dropped a 62-52 decision to host San Francisco State on Friday evening at The Swamp in San Francisco. The Seawolves (1-6, 0-3 CCAA) have lost four straight and remain winless in CCAA play while the Gators improve to 7-2 overall (3-0 CCAA), including a perfect 6-0 at home.
Sonoma State jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first four minutes, but the Gators went on a 7-0 run capped by an Angela Van Sickel three-pointer to take a 11-10 lead in the next three minutes. SF State increased its lead to 22-12 on a three-ball by Leticia Galarza with 9:07 left in the first half.
The Seawolves did not go away as they cut the Gator lead to five points at 22-17 on a
Tanner Adams' layup at the 5:48 mark, but the hosts finished the half outscoring their guests 9-1 to take a 31-18 lead into the locker room.
SF State increased its lead to 48-27 in the first six minutes of the second half, but SSU turned a 21-point deficit into a six-point deficit (56-50) after a three-ball by Adams with 47 seconds left in the contest.
However, SFSU went 6 for 6 from the charity stripe in the waning moments, including a 4 for 4 effort by Van Sickel, to take the 62-52 win.
Sonoma State and San Francisco State will face each other once more before the end of the calendar year when the two squads meet up on Dec. 22 at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park for a matinee, tipping off at 2:00 pm.
