INDIANAPOLIS -- Sonoma State University junior Lauren Curtin, who was named the CCAA Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Year last month and earned First Team All-CCAA and All-West Region honors, has been selected to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women's All-America First Team a week after being named to the Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention squad.  Curtin, a native of Santa Rosa, Calif., became the 24th different SSU women's soccer student-athlete to earn All-America honors in program history.

"Lauren is an outstanding player both on and off the field," said SSU head women's soccer coach Emiria Salzmann Dunn.  "Her dedication to return to the team this year after having sat out last season was remarkable and inspiring.  She truly is a standout person and athlete and deserves this high honor."

Curtin was the conference's second-leading scorer with 25 points this season, recording eight goals and nine assists from the midfield position.  After sitting out last season due to injury, Curtin returned in 2013 to start all 21 games and is third on the all-time list for most assists per game (0.43) and ninth in points per game (1.19).  In fact, she got her SSU career off on a fast start, tallying a season-high five points with two goals and an assist in the season-opening 7-0 win over Antelope Valley on Sept. 6, then scored two more goals just nine days later in a 4-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 15.

Three other women's soccer players from the CCAA earned NSCAA All-America DIstinction, including the 2013 Ron Lenz National Player of the Year Karenee Demery from Cal State Stanislaus, who led the nation in points (52) and was second in goals scored (21); Demery joined Curtin on the NSCAA All-America First Team this season.  Cal State Stanislaus midfielder Katelyn Nebesnick earned Second Team honors and Cal State San Bernardino goalkeeper Chelsey Jones was a Third Team selection.

Curtin, her twin sister Cara Curtin and Lauren Fryer were also selected to the NSCAA All-West Region First Team this season.

In the Daktronics All-America program, which was voted on by NCAA Division II sports information directors, Curtin, Demery and Cal State Stanislaus defender Emily Relles were honored.

Sonoma State saw its 2013 season end in a 1-0 loss to Seattle Pacific in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on Nov. 14 in Bellingham, Wash.  The Seawolves ended the year at 13-5-3 overall, placing second in the CCAA North Division standings at 10-3-3.
