Lindsay Rangel scored the game winning goal over Cal Lutheran. Rangel recored three goals in two games on Sunday.
DAVIS, Calif.-- The Sonoma State women's water polo team traveled to the campus of UC Davis to play in two matches as part of the UC Davis Challenge.  The Seawolves clawed back to take down Cal Lutheran as Lindsay Rangel was able to fire one in with three ticks remaining in regulation to give SSU the 9-8 victory.  In the night cap, Sonoma State took on the host UC Davis Aggies and put up a strong showing, but came up short, losing 8-6.  The Seawolves went 2-1 over the weekend -- beating Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday --  improving their record to 5-9 overall.

SONOMA STATE 9, CAL LUTHERAN 8
Lindsay Rangel beat the buzzer as she threw in the ninth and winning goal with three seconds left in the match to take down Cal Lutheran 9-8, and earn their second win in a row.  After Cal Lutheran netted two goals in the opening quarter, Sonoma State came back aggressively in the second period, scoring five goals including two from Brittny Hummel to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.

After the break Cal Lutheran took the lead again as they were able to put three balls passed the outstreatched hands of SSU goaltender Ariel Lockshaw, giving the Regals a two point lead going into the final quarter.  The Seawolves outscored the Regals 4-1 in the fourth quarter, including Rangel's buzzer-beating winning goal, to grab the 9-8 win from CLU.

In addition to her winning goal in the fourth quarter, Rangel netted another goal in the second quarter, totalling two in the game.  Also contributing to the offense, Nicole Browning, Colette Reid and Hummel recorded two scores for the Seawolves.  Freshman Noelle Herrera tallied one goal in the victory.  For the Regals, Kaylee Kastrup and Jordan Card each had two goals in the loss.

Ariel Lockshaw started in the cage and recorded nine saves for SSU, while Kylee Tomasetti tallied seven saves for CLU.

UC DAVIS 8, SONOMA STATE 6
Looking to ride their momentum from the previous game and extend their win streak to three games, Sonoma State fought hard to stay in contention with the Aggies of UC Davis.  However, the Seawolves would come up short in an 8-6 loss.  It was Sonoma State who got on the board first with a goal from the hand of Adrienne Bisharat.  UC Davis followed with three goals of their own to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The second quarter began with a Colette Reid goal to put the Seawolves within one at 3-2.  After the Aggies answered back, Reid tallied her second goal of the quarter to again, bring the Seawolves within one point.  UC Davis capped off the first half with two goals to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

Sonoma State was silenced in the third quarter as UC Davis increased their lead to five at a score of 8-3.  In the fourth quarter, it was UC Davis who was blanked as SSU scored three times in hopes to rally back for a win.  However, three goals would not be enough as UCD came out with the 8-6 win.

The Sonoma State offense was powered by a hat trick from Colette Reid in addition to one goal from Laura Kunz, Bisharat, and Rangel.  Ariel Lockshaw recorded nine saves in the cage for SSU.

Keelia Houston and Carmen Eggert fired in two goals in the winning effort for UCD, while Erin Schuleter, Paige Oreglia, Jessica Dunn, and Elise Fullerton pitched in with one goal apiece.

Sonoma State will return home for one game when they take on Azuza Pacific on Friday, February 22nd at Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool.  First sprint is set for 3:30pm.
