BOX SCORE Sonoma State 90, Cal State Monterey Bay 81 -- Box Score

SEASIDE, Calif. --
Will Olsem scored 40 points for the second straight night and Patrick Scott chipped in with 25 points as the Sonoma State men's basketball team shot its way past Cal State Monterey Bay with a 90-81 victory in front of a near-capacity crowd at The Kelp Bed in Seaside on Saturday night.  The Seawolves (8-10, 6-8 CCAA) have won two straight games while the Otters (8-13, 4-10 CCAA) have dropped five of their last six.

On back-to-back nights, the sharpshooting Olsem turned in two of the top four single-game scoring performances in program history with 40 points against Cal State East Bay on Friday, followed by 40 points against the Otters.  On Saturday, he was 12 of 18 from the hardwood, including 7 of 12 from three-point range, and was a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line.  Not to mention, he led all players with nine rebounds.

Scott was just as dangerous against CSUMB, hitting eight of his 14 shots with four three-pointers.  As a team, Sonoma State shot 56.9 percent from the floor (29-51) and drained 14 three-pointers on 23 attempts (60.9 percent).

Right from the get-go, all 711 Cal State Monterey Bay fans in attendance knew that Olsem wasn't going to be easy to contain.  He scored 11 of Sonoma State's first 13 points and eventually accounted for 21 of the team's first 30 points, all within the first 10 minutes of the contest.  Olsem was held scoreless for the remainder of the half, but the Seawolves would take a 50-39 lead into the intermission.

While SSU would go on to lead by as much as 16 points at 61-45 at the 15:08 mark of the second half, CSUMB wasn't about to let their raucous homecoming crowd down.  The Otters got to within five points on a pair of occasions, including an 84-79 deficit with 1:22 to play, but neither team was able to score for the next 55 seconds, keeping both teams on edge.  However, Olsem hit a pair of free throws with 27 seconds left and a layup by Emmanuel Bradford with 15 seconds to play sealed the win for Sonoma State.

Bradford recorded eight points for the Seawolves on Saturday, followed by six points apiece from Jabri Jenkins and Jason WalterSteve Lackey led all players with seven assists, a career-high.

Cal State Monterey Bay was led by the 22 points of Kevin Loustale, 19 from Brandon Ward and 14 from Alex Fertig.  The Otters also had a hot hand, shooting 50.8 percent from the floor (30-59), but the Seawolves hit nine more three-pointers than the hosts, which would prove to be the difference in the game.

Sonoma State returns home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to host Cal State Stanislaus in The Wolves' Den.
