LA JOLLA, Calif -- Megan Konieczka went 3 for 5 with two RBI and three runs scored and
Samantha Lipperd delivered another stellar performance, allowing just two hits and a run to help Sonoma State blowout host UC San Diego 11-1 in game one, but the Tritons forced the doubleheader split after walking off for the second straight day with a narrow 1-0 win in extra innings in game two.
The Seawolves move to 10-5 and 5-3 in CCAA action, while the Tritons remain at .500 overall at 9-9, alongside a 5-3 mark in conference play.
Sonoma State will step outside of conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Dominican in a doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 p.m. -- it will mark the start of a 14-game homestand. The Seawolves return to CCAA action next Friday when Cal State East Bay comes to town.
GAME 1: #19 Sonoma State 11, UC San Diego 1 --- Box Score
Konieczka ended the opener just a double shy of the cycle as the Seawolves, who trailed 1-0 early on, scored 11 unanswered runs to earn the convincing win. She singled in the third inning, tripled in the fourth and cranked a two-run home run in the seventh.
Ancia Purdy also finished with three hits, scoring a pair of runs while driving in another.
In all, Sonoma State totaled 13 hits in the ballgame. While Konieczka and Purdy combined for six hits,
Ali Palermo and
Holli Brown had a pair of hits each -- Palermo added two RBI.
Lipperd improved to 6-2 as she scattered just two hits and struck out six in a complete game effort. She allowed a hit in the first, which ended up producing the only Triton run. It was an RBI single by Caitlin Brown, scoring Callie Grant.
Michelle Escamilla (1-6) suffered the loss in a relief role. After taking over in the third inning, she allowed five runs on six hits over 1.1 innings.
After trailing 1-0 through the first two innings, the Seawolves finally broke through for four runs on five hits, then added two more in the fourth inning to lead 6-1. In its final at bat, SSU tacked on five more runs, two of which came home on Konieczka's blast to left field.

Like Friday's win for the Tritons, Saturday's victory also came in walk-off fashion. Following seven and a half scoreless innings, Taylor Sepulveda led off the bottom of the eighth by cracking a double to the gap in right-center field. The ball was mishandled by
Danielle D'Eccliss in right field, and heads-up baserunning by Sepulveda got her to third. A throw from Konieczka, who backed up D'Eccliss on the play, found nobody on the receiving end at third base, which allowed Sepulveda to cross the plate for the game-winning run. Two errors were charged on the play.
UCSD starting pitcher Jennifer Manuel tossed a complete game, two-hitter. She struck out one and walked three to improve to 2-0 on the year. Sepulveda had two of UCSD's seven hits in the game. Five other Tritons each had singles.
For the Seawolves, freshman
Amanda Llerena (4-3) struck out two over seven innings of work. Hollie Brown and
Vanessa Currie each had base hits.
UCSD had at least one runner on base in every inning. The Tritons had a chance to strike first in the sixth as Sepulveda and Nicole Spangler had back-to-back bunt singles with no outs. However, the next three batters were retired to end the threat and keep the game scoreless.
